The Style Chick Story

Hello, my name is Aungelica!

I am located in Kansas and I have 40 fancy chickens! With floral wallpaper in their coupe and a disco ball! My chickens are my babies and I post about all their little funny moments on my Facebook page and they have grown quite a little following! I am married to my best friend Jonny, we have been together since 2011! We do everything together! He has a dirtwork company and taught me how to operate all the big heavy equipment and trucks! I operate with him when I’m not hustling with my boutique and chickens! I can dig a pond, build a driveway, take out trees and drive a semi! And in turn, my husband helps me in all my business too. He packs orders, paints, builds, goes to market with me, all the things!

So how did I start a boutique?? In 2017 I started selling jewelry on Facebook and my group was born. I sold jewelry for 6 years and my group was called “Jewelry Junkie by Aungelica” up until recently!

In early 2022 I started shifting and wanting MORE out of my business. I felt as though I reached a wall. I had to make a choice whether to keep going on without growing or try something else. I could either keep banging my head against the wall or I could walk around it! I was so scared to move past my comfort zone of jewelry after doing it for so many years.

I decided I wanted to try making high quality graphic tees. I never took out a loan for anything, I saved up all the money I earned selling jewelry and it took me 3 months. While saving the money I took an online course to learn how to make the shirts. When I felt confident enough and raised enough cash I bought the most expensive printer and heat press, all the shirts and supplies. I was ALL IN and hit the ground running by July. So I had jewelry and shirts and I was so happy for about 2 months. I doubled my income quickly and loved my new gig! Then in October 2022 I was introduced to a new trend called Permanent Jewelry. I fell in love with it and bought into it right away. As I did with jewelry and tees, I went ALL in with Permanent jewelry in late October and I haven’t had a weekend off since then! By December I made more money in 2 months than I did in a year with regular jewelry! So I had jewelry, tees and now permanent jewelry!

I sat back and looked at everything I was doing. I was collaborating with so many boutiques, my closet is full of amazing clothes, it’s my favorite thing to spend money on! It’s my dream to own a boutique but I never thought I could actually do it or be good at it. But during all these decisions to “WALK AROUND THE WALL” I kept thinking…you know I was so SCARED to start jewelry and it was a success. I was SCARED to start tees but it was a bigger success…and I was scared to start permanent jewelry but it was a WILD success!! So all this happened within a year. I was literally scared to do everything but I DID THEM ANYWAY!!! Everything I tried I was a success, and getting better every time I made a leap.

The things outside your comfort are usually the BIGGEST LIFE CHANGERS. I was living by my own quote all year that I clung to…it got me out of my head a lot of times, “BE AFRAID, then GO DO IT”. You can be scared, but don’t let it keep you from doing the dang things!

So it’s New Years Eve 2022 and I’m thinking back on my incredible year and the amount of quick growth with adding these 2 things. I ask myself on New Years, “What else am I scared of, what else am I holding back on that could be amazing? What should my New Years Resolution be?”

First thing that came to mind was the boutique. And my stomach immediately dropped in fear…”Noooo not yet” “I’m not ready” “You’re getting ahead of yourself” “You don’t even know how to do taxes” then God says….”Why not now?” “I’ve been preparing you for this moment” “You can learn how to do taxes” HAHA anything can be learned.

So next thing I do in January is I applied for a business license, resellers permit and sales tax ID!! I continued to save and save and SAVE up doing Permanent Jewerly every weekend and during the week making shirts and selling regular jewelry!

In February I apply for the Kansas State Fair 2023 and I DONT EVEN HAVE CLOTHING YET!! HAHA Early March we were ACCEPTED into the Fair. Late March I go to my first Market in Dallas and I was SOOOO FAR out of my comfort zone I was shaking!! It was like your first date, feeling INSECURE but also SO FLIPPING EXCITED!!! I bought as much as I could afford at Market, and worked hard for a month to get ready to launch clothing on my Facebook group.

I went through so much rebranding and I had to rename my entire business! I couldnt start a boutique and keep the name “Jewelry Junkie”. Everyone knows I love chickens and they have kinda become my symbol that everyone knows me for! I decide to name my brand “The Style Chick”. I made my little Chick logo to resemble ME if I were a chicken! She is wearing my glasses! 

I announce the rebranding, advertise it like crazy for about 2 weeks and show my first collection to the world in late April! And guess what…it was a massive success! I was overwhelmed by the support.

So since April 2023 I’ve been posting clothes on Facebook, selling jewelry, doing permanent jewelry pop ups every weekend, making shirts, going to Markets, and preparing ALL YEAR for this STATE FAIR exhibit of everything I have built up! After all the success this big dream has had this year, I decided to go ahead and launch my own website!
